Choose Wisely
May 2018 - August 2018
Project Type: Board Game
Software: Adobe Illustrator
Description:
Choose Wisely is a card game about growing up, making choices, free will, and fatalism.
Details:
-
This is a zero-sum game
-
On the surface, this is a game about growth, but it is actually a game about free will and fatalism
-
In an ideal situation where all players make no mistakes, the ending of winning or losing is determined from the very beginning when players choose their deck, although they don’t know yet
-
Players' negligence and mistakes will change the already destined ending
-
But every player wants to win, so they will take it seriously and avoid making mistakes. In this way, even if the players really lose, they can accept it. Because they tried their best, they lost to bad luck, not to their own mistakes.
What I did for this project:
-
Designing rules and cards
-
Designing and drawing cards in Adobe Illustrator
-
Designing and making the Rule book in Adobe Illustrator
-
Printing and cutting cards and rule books
What I learned from this project:
-
It is very challenging to explain the rules of a board game to players accurately
-
Keep testing and iterating rapidly. Always test the new design as soon as possible
-
Board games are great simulation
-
Do we really have free will? Probably there is
-
Can we fight against fatalism? Ignorance is our ammunition
-
Be brave and don't be afraid to make mistakes
