Description:

Zenith is a third-person action-adventure game where players play as a young teenage girl Su, exploring and fighting against mysterious robots in Asian style gardens and palaces.​ And here is the Level Guidebook for the whole game.

Details: 

  • Fast-paced combat, and fast & free movement (Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee)

  • Intense fightings and flexible strategies (Play in your own style)​

  • Beautiful and dangerous environment 

  • Combination of multiple enemies

What I did for this project:​

  • Working in a team of 4​

  • Writing Design Documents during pre-production​

  • Designing levels in Adobe Illustrator​

  • Building levels in Unreal Engine 4​

  • Adjusting the lighting for levels in Unreal Engine 4​

  • 3D modeling environmental assets / UV unwrapping / Texturing assets in Maya​

  • Designing the combat system with teammates

What I learned from this project:

  • The grappling system is the core mechanism of this game, affecting the combat style and level design​

  • But the combat system is still the fundamental core system of an action game. So it is necessary to figure out the combat system as early as possible​

  • Keep testing and iterating rapidly. Always test the new design as soon as possible​

  • Open to all the suggestions, analyzing and testing them, then selecting the good parts to add into the game​

  • Communicating with teammates all the time and working together to find a workable solution
